Get Involved in the United Nations International Year of Microcredit

The New York University Microfinance Initiative is a newly formed organization involving students from Stern, the Wagner School of Public Policy and representatives from the United Nations.
The United Nations has designated 2005 to be International Year of Microcredit, and the NYU Microfinance Initiative was formed to support these efforts by creating an environment for students, alumni and professors to engage in an open dialogue about the sector, learning more about current trends and organizing activities to promote microfinance as a tool for alleviating poverty both locally and globally.

The NYU Microfinance Initiative includes a broad range of activities designed to educate and raise awareness of the microfinance sector. The NYU Microfinance Initiative is looking for students to take part in the following specific activities, which are organized to stimulate initiative, creativity and build leadership skills:
* Global Micro-entrepreneurship Awards Programme
* Lecture and Training Series on Microfinance
* Publication Opportunities
* Microfinance Employment Recruitment Opportunities
These hands-on activities are a great way to gain valuable experience and to network within the microfinance and development sectors. For example, as Team Leader for the Global Micro-entrepreneurship Programme, students would work with representatives from the UN, Citigroup and student volunteers in other countries to be coordinate awards programs that recognize micro-entrepreneurs and their contributions around the world.
