Over the course of four days from January 4th through 7th, more than 30 members of TANG took on the San Francisco Bay Area. The purpose of this trip was to learn about the companies businesses and make contacts with individuals at each company. We visited nine companies on the trip, including Apple, Visa, Inter, HP, BEA, EA, Konami USA, Openwave and Oracle. Each day was spent visited two companies, except for Thursday when there were three companies as well as an alumni/prospective mixer.
The first company visited Tuesday morning was Apple, the maker of everyone's favorite mp3 player, the iPod. Unfortunately, due to limited space and the company's focus on summer internships I did not attend this meeting. However from the stories I've heard the attendees learned a great deal about the company and were treated to product demonstrations. The afternoon session was with Visa, largest credit card company in the world. After a presentation by some of Visa's management, the students networked with representatives from Visa's various functional areas.
Wednesday began with a visit to Intel's finance department, where MBA2 Nate Palmer worked last summer and is returning after graduation. Here we had a Q&A session with Intel's treasurer and another senior manager, followed by a panel discussion with recent MBA graduates who were working in the finance department. Following Intel we lunched at a local Indian restaurant, where we managed to take over the entire second floor. In the afternoon the group visited HP, where we listened to a presentation on the company and a panel discussion by a group of HP managers.
Thursday was a busy day, with three companies to visit and the evening mixer. The day started at BEA, where we listened to a company presentation and had a Q&A with a panel that included the company's CTO, CMO, and CIO. Our next stop, Electronic Arts, definitely had the best office complex on the tour. In the lobby are widescreen high-definition televisions with game consoles loaded with their latest games. After a company presentation we were taken on a company tour which included a game library, a company gymnasium, and a room full of memorabilia signed by their sponsored sports athletes.
