Hey there all you health-food eaters. This review is for you! Our restaurant for this Oppy edition is Quantum Leap, which is just a hop, skip and jump away from Stern. It's almost like a vegan restaurant, yet they also serve fish. Confusing, we know, but we went with it...
It's fun for us when a friend or two comes along since we get to try even more stuff.

This week, we got Jose to join us (Brin joined us at the tail end in time for dessert... yum). To start, Jose ordered Salmon Chowder (bland, but fishy) and we got an order of tempura yam fries, which came with ponzu sauce. The tempura batter gave them a nice crunch, and although we had expected them to be sweeter, we ate every one. Next, we picked three "burgers" to share; a grilled mahi-mahi burger (again, kind of fishy, but good), the special of the day - a shrimp burger (Dan liked this the most but Jamie got caught up in not being able to identify the shrimp in patty form), and a barbeque vegan chik'n sandwich (somehow we ended up with the barbeque chik'n platter instead).

We were all skeptical about the faux chicken, but it was actually edible and the sauce was nice and spicy. It looked like chicken breast, but the consistency was a tad bit more rubbery. After we all tasted it, Jose ate every last bite, so it must have been good - he's a true carnivore. The one thing none of us liked was the hummus. It was a weird blend of stuff and we all thought it had too much of something, but we couldn't figure out what that something was.

The true highlight of our meal was dessert. Above our table was a chalkboard with the dessert offerings listed. Now, keep in mind, this is a "Natural Food Restaurant" and the desserts were made with tofu instead of eggs and dairy. Could have been a disaster, but we had to know what they were like, so we ordered one slice of peanut butter tofu pie and one slice of key lime tofu pie. Even though we were extremely full, Jamie inhaled the key lime tofu concoction while our friend Brin went at the Peanut Butter. Dan jumped back and forth. The "tofu" in the titles was almost a deterrent, but if they didn't tell you the desserts were made of tofu, you would never know. They were YUMMY. Creamy and very flavorful. If this is any indication of how good the desserts actually were - we want to go back and try their pumpkin tofu pie.

One last comment, French fries are free with the burgers during lunch on Thursday and Friday... get the fries... they're really good.
Until next time!
