Issue date: 12/13/05 Section: News
Several Stern students mentioned that campus seemed a little less coiffed, perhaps not as fashion forward as it usually is on November 17th and 18th. Stern OutClass traveling to Chicago for the 8th annual Reaching Out Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender MBA Student Conference could testify to some of our classmates' observations.

Fifteen students from Stern attended and made a significant presence at Reaching Out. Stern, in fact, was the second largest delegation, following that from Kellogg, which hosted the event along with Chicago GSB and Tuck at Dartmouth. Our faculty advisor, JD Schramm, hosted cocktails atop the John Hancock building to kick the weekend off.

Stern OutClass students were not only present, but visible. Jorge Fontanez was a panelist, Shiri Eshed from the Langone program was present as a Goldman Sachs recruiter, nine students participated in the Booz Allen Hamilton Case competition, with Stern students Jorge Fontanez, Dan Kneipp, Chris Schuster, and Kevin Smith on the first and second place teams. Stern alumni were present as corporate representatives.

Professor J.D. Schramm, who played an integral role coordinating the competition, said, "The case contest at Reaching Out has grown from a small event 'tacked on' to the beginning of the conference to an integral portion of the weekend. I was thrilled to see nine Stern students compete this year against students from Georgetown, Kellogg, and Cornell. We did very well having students on both the first and second place teams."

Out professionals from 44 companies were present to promote the acceptance and visibility of Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people in the workplace. The Conference Board of Directors includes business leaders from McKinsey & Co., IBM, Deloitte, and General Chemical. A total of 33 companies sponsored the conference, with Lehman Brothers as the lead sponsor. Representatives from technology, finance, consulting, media, travel, and consumer packaged goods industries came prepared to share their insights, build networks with current students, recruit, and learn about the future of LGBT issues in the workplace. Reaching Out provided an additional opportunity for OutClass members to see the many recruiters whom they have met in New York.
