SCorp/EEX Halloween bash
And I'll form The Head!
Gregory Wong
Halloween is quickly approaching and I assume that everyone will be planning to attend the first-annual SCorp/EEX Halloween bash at Slate on the 31st. There will be some great prizes for the best dressed, so I hope everyone comes up with really creative costume ideas. In my last Oppy article, I briefly mentioned a few hackneyed costumes people should consider leaving home - Gordon Gekko, Patrick Bateman and unemployed i-banker, for those you who don’t remember. Several students asking for help with potential outfit ideas have approached me recently, so for those suffering from some creativity block, I now present two kick-butt, SCorp-approved costume ideas and how YOU can pull them off with ease.
Sarah Palin – an idea mostly for the ladies, although perhaps some guys could pull this off without looking completely creepy (after further thought, I was wrong, it’s impossible). First and foremost, the perfect Palin starts with the ‘do’ – I recommend a wig, since you probably don’t want to keep that beehive hairstyle after Halloween. According to ABC News, Palin’s rectangular glasses are flying off the shelves, but no need to throw down 400 bucks for the titanium pair that Palin sports, any drugstore will carry a large array of look-alike reading glasses. You will also need bronzer for that golden Alaskan tan as well as a no-nonsense power suit (read: any generic, conservative suit will do). Baby Trig – a baby doll wrapped in a yellow towel – may be the perfect accessory to complete the look.
Dean Gary Fraser – I’m a big fan of dressing up as Dean Fraser as an homage to business school’s best dean of students (believe it or not, I was not bribed into saying that statement – take THAT Professional Responsibility). Dean Fraser is easy to pull off too: large smile, jacket-less suit with white shirt and striped tie. Bonus points for telling each class that they are the best and brightest class that Stern has ever seen. Double bonus points for gathering MBA1s into 2-60 and scolding them.
Other great costume ideas include: Larry Craig (complete with toilet stall), play-on-words costumes (Freudian Slip, Dressed to the Nines, Cocktail, Dick Cheney, etc), Pregnant Nun and the rock-band KISS – all reek of awesomeness.
In unrelated news, Charity Ball is right around the corner. For the unenlightened, think Stern Prom with a large charity fund-raising and volunteer event component. I’ll get into more details in a future article, but I want each and every one of you to begin thinking about the silent auction, which is a large part of the night. I challenge all of you to come up with great items to donate. Last year, we raised over $10,000 and we are hoping to shatter that record at this year’s event.
Finally, last Wednesday we started SCorp office hours for the first time in Sosnoff Lounge. If you haven’t been, it’s a great opportunity to speak with members of SCorp to learn about what’s going on at school. The office hours are also a great opportunity for you to give us suggestions on how student life at school can be improved. They will occur almost every Wednesday this semester from 4:30 – 5:30pm at Sosnoff, so please stop by if you have the chance.
See you this Thursday!
