We at the Stern Community Service Committee are overjoyed to tell you that the Food Fight raised $2,845.86 including cash and food donations!!! All because of your generosity, the Food Bank of NY will be able to provide 14,238 meals to hungry New Yorkers. And even more, because of a grant provided by the organization Robin Hood,  Stern cash donations ($ 2,823) were tripled, matching each dollar with $2 (up to $1 million) turning our cash donations in $8,469 and generating a total of 42,345 meals!!!

This was all because you were willing to make a difference and help out fellow New Yorkers! And we couldn’t have made it without your generosity; donating and some of you even helping us run the table. Now about the competition!! Among blocks, after a very tight race, Block 5 raised as the winner, closely followed by Block 1 in second place, Block 4 in third place, Block 2 in fourth place, Block 3 in fifth place and last but not least Block 6. As you already know Block 5 will get 100 points for winning this competition. Congratulations! And about the competition among business schools, we are still waiting for results and we will keep you posted as soon as we hear anything. We know that Stern will do even more next year!

But the MBA Food Fight was not the only event in which Sternies helped last year. Each one of the first year blocks collaborated with different organizations at the beginning of the semester as part of the MBA Challenge. Block 1 helped the Food Bank of NY, Block 2 helped with the Night the Light event from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Block 3 helped with the Avon walk for Breast Cancer, Block 4 participated with New York Cares Day, Block 5 helped the National Multiple Sclerosis Society with the Bike Tour and Block 6 helped with the Race for the Kids organized by Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC.

Second years and part-timers also participated in volunteer activities, helping organize the Alzheimer Walk. In December SCORP organized the Charity Ball which was a great opportunity to not only dance the night away on Tavern on the Green but also to support the East River Development Alliance (ERDA).

Now that you know you can make a difference, you must be thinking what else you can do to make Stern Impact in our community. We at the Committee are already planning some events but we definitely encourage you to keep us posted of any individual efforts we can give you a hand with. Last semester we heard about Santiago and Sarah supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society participating of a triathlon, Daniel supporting the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Phil running the NYC marathon for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, but we know there are many more of you out there. Don’t forget to sign up through e-campus groups to the SCS group, check out our webpage https://nyustern-scs.ecampusgroups.com/ for more details and send us any email to cservice@stern.nyu.edu or reach out to any of the officers of the club.

Don’t forget to participate of the upcoming Stern Charity Poker Tournament it will be on February 22nd. We will also be having a Blood Drive starting February 10th for the Blood Bank of NY. Yes, we want your blood now!! Did you know that 1 of every 3 people will need a life-saving transfusion sometime during their lifetime? This is your chance to help!

We at the SCS just want to thank you again for your support with our initiatives. Remember that it is you that makes the Stern Impact!!
