Mar 10, 2009 I am on the go like never before! These last two weeks have been trying to say the least but there is a bright light at the end of this tunnel. I suspect it is shining from somewhere in Kruger National Park.
What happened to our lives!?!? Admittedly, one of my biggest draws to Stern NYU was….. LOCATION. The plan was to move to Manhattan and turn the excitement in my life up more than just a couple notches. The plan was to end my twenties with an abundance of eyebrow raising, jaw dropping stories, enough not to fill a book, but rather a home library. While packing to move cross country, I donated my TV realizing that tales of weekends and evenings on the couch watching a weeks worth of TiVo'd reality TV shows, Private Practice and Desperate Housewives failed to excite. How then did I justify watching Damodaran's Corp Fin lectures on my laptop, marathon style two weekends ago? I attended every lecture yet could not resist the urge to replay. Corp Fin quiz 1 down, leadership take home final in progress, group projects as always….in progress. All of this work is unquestionably worth it., Even in the absence of internship opportunities, we are still enjoying NY and for most of us we plan for our treks, the world. Yes we may not be making money (yet) but we have one life to live and we are leaving no rock unturned!
My choice this year is South Africa. I am extremely excited. This is my first time traveling with such a large group. I was shocked to say the least, by all of the research and planning going into this trip. I did not realize I was in the presence so many Type A personalities. Once I recognized the intensity of EMA's effort to make this trip worthwhile, I adopted a whole new attitude……Whatever, Whenever, Wherever, I end up in South Africa is fine by me. I am just happy to go, after all…..

As an MBA1, I am particularly pleased with this issue. It is the first time that an international student used the Oppy as a platform to shed some light on current business in his home continent. Check out Paul Ababio's column, "Africa: What's Hot and What's Not." Hopefully it is the first of many contributions from our international representatives. As we travel, enjoy each other's cultures and recognize global opportunities, let's not forget we are each others resources.
