2009 Charity Poker

On Sunday, February 22, more than 160 students, faculty and alumni went all in for the 5th annual Stern Charity Poker Tournament, raising nearly $8,000 for Project Grad. This year's event, held in Cantor Boardroom and Abbe Bogen at the Kaufman Management Center set event records for both attendance and money raised for charity.
Alum Mark Weintraub finished in first place, winning Caesar's Atlantic City Total Luxury Experience. The package included: hotel for winner and 3 friends, round trip limo for 4, one $100 gift card for The Pier Shops, $100 in chips, Dinner for 4 at Buddakan, table service at Game on! and more.
Finishing in second place and third place respectively were Alum Chris Talbott and MBA1 Zubin Dalal. Each won a poker chip set and restaurant gift certificates. Also making the final table and winning poker chip sets were Josue Portillo (MBA2), Billy Leung (PT), Ben Harding (MBA1), Yongjin Huang (PT) and Surinder (SJ) Singh (PT).
Additionally, there were two bounty winners for knocking out Operations Professor Harry Chernoff and Student Activities Director Ed Kovacs. Tournament champion Mark Weintraub knocked out Professor Chernoff, and as a prize will accompany him to a New York Knick's game. MBA1 Benedetta Arese Lucini overtook Student Activities Director Kovacs, winning lunch with him at the Torch club. Moreover, the top female finisher, Alum Piper Rosenshein won a bottle of wine complimentary of Stern Women in Business.
All proceeds from the tournament benefited Project Grad and its mission to ensure a quality public school education for all at-risk children in economically disadvantaged communities. For more information on Project Grad, please visit www.projectgrad.org.
In the week prior to the tournament, Operations Professor Harry Chernoff held poker lessons for students interested in learning how to play the game.
