Kobe and A-Rod may dominate ESPN's daily highlight reel, but it's on any given Friday at East River Park* that heroes are made and stars are born. Where competition is fierce and the stakes for bragging rights are high, MBA students are leaving their financial calculators behind to gear up for intramural sports.

Student's range from beginners to former college athletes so there's something for everyone. Whether you're a former All-American football player still bitter from your career ending injury, or the ex- high school chess club president whose headgear and AP calculus homework kept you form getting your shine on; revenge never sounded as sweet as the roar from the intramural crowd.

Stern has an array of intramural teams to keep its students fit and highly entertained. Besides, who wants to be a gym rat when you could be an intramural superstar! Not to mention the perks. If ever there was a better place to unleash your aggression on that annoying block member that only asks questions in class to hear themselves talk it's on the court or the field. Football and basketball are some of the school's fan favorites. For a list of club sport presidents and more info on how to get involved, see the contact list below:

And unlike your classes (or at least unlike how you should be approaching your classes), sports teams rarely require practice, so all you need to do is show up. Don't wait 'til the season is over, when you could relish in the accolades afforded from sweet victory.

Tips from our star MBA2 Rookie John Hutcheson

OPPY: How did you hear about intramural sports at Stern?
JOHN HUTCHESON: I was heavily recruited for intramural basketball through the very vocal and passionate intramural basketball coach Stephan Reinhard. I was toiling around in the pick-up leagues before I got the call to come up to the big time.

OPPY: Why do you participate?
HUTCHESON: I participate to relieve stress and for glory. There is no greater accomplishment than hoisting the intramural cup after a hard fought season. (Winners also get free t-shirts)

OPPY: How long have you been doing it?
HUTCHESON: Last fall I was very busy with recruiting (which in itself is like a professional sport) so last spring I was able to get more involved playing on the Stern intramural softball team. This fall I am playing football and basketball.

OPPY: Are other NYU schools involved or does it depend?
HUTCHESON: Yes, all schools participate. It is an excellent opportunity to stick it to the law school or those whiny undergrads.

OPPY: Do you have any insider tips?
HUTCHESON:
Do: Destroy all opponents, relish in victory, win free t-shirts

Don't: Take any prisoners, lose to law school
