Issue date: 12/8/09 Section: News
On December 5, more than 500 members of the Stern alumni community gathered in the newly renovated Concourse levels of Tisch Hall for the Ninth Annual Stern Alumni Ball & Concourse Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony. Since its inception in 2001, the Stern Alumni Ball has grown to become a much-anticipated annual tradition, bringing together alumni, faculty, administrators, and friends to celebrate the Stern community and our New York City location during the holiday season. This year's gala sought to re-connect alumni with their alma mater by celebrating amidst the beautifully transformed Concourse levels.
Dean Thomas F. Cooley welcomed guests and recognized the overwhelming donor and alumni support to the School and the Concourse Project, stating the significant contributions the community makes to the future of Stern and our future business leaders. The Dean also expressed sincere gratitude to the Stern community for supporting his vision throughout his eight- year tenure and encouraged a continued lasting partnership with the School's efforts.
Vice Dean and Dean of the Undergraduate College, Sally Blount, as well as William R. Berkley, BS '66 and Chair of the NYU Stern Board of Overseers, also spoke of the significance of alumni support in ensuring the success of the Concourse Project. Funded solely by alumni who have contributed more than $35 million dollars thus far, the completion of this project would not have been possible without their generosity. NYU Stern Overseers Leonard N. Stern BS '57, MBA '59; John Paulson, BS '78; and Stewart A. Satter, MBA '82, P '10, along with Mark Bean, MBA '06 and Chair of the Alumni Ball Host Committee, kicked-off the evening with the official Concourse Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony.
Set against the backdrop of a magical vision of their old stomping grounds, alumni experienced an evening that was both a tribute to fond memories and a celebration of things yet to come. Guests enjoyed an elegant buffet-style dinner, drinks and dancing as they reconnected with friends and explored the reconstructed Concourse space. Over 50 Concourse donors joined fellow members of the Stern community to celebrate the holiday season and the success of the project.
The Office of Alumni Relations & Development sincerely thanks our Concourse donors, as well as all donors who have helped ensure the continued success of our school. We also extend a warm thank you to the Alumni Ball Committee and all those who attended for making this event a tremendous success. We encourage you to utilize the wonderful, new Concourse space and we hope to see you, our future alumni, at an Alumni Ball in the very near future.
