Linda Lanvin, Managing Director Investment Banking TD Securities

How have you relied on the resources available to women at TD Securities throughout your career so far?
I have been with TD Securities for 20 years, working in various disciplines within the firm. One of the reasons I choose to stay with TD Securities as long as I have is the quality of the people that I work with, and the ability to work within different groups to achieve my career and life objectives. When my children were younger, I transferred into a new group that would be helpful to my career development but required less travel than my previous position, and at a later point took advantage of the flexible work program by working from home on one day per week. I have consistently worked for managers, both men and women, who have been supportive of me and have taken an interest in my success.
What advice do you have for MBA women about to graduate in today's changing environment?
Network as much as possible, and continue to do so once you begin working. It is just as important to network within your firm as it with people who work elsewhere. Before contacting individuals in various industries and /or firms, do your homework; be aware of the trends within that industry or any major issues or initiatives being undertaken by specific firms. Reach out and develop a rapport with other women at your firm and in your industry. However, when looking for mentors, do not limit yourself to women. Some of my best mentors and advocates have been men.
